NK Osijek faces a wave of discontent: about 300 supporters gathered outside Opus Arena on Wednesday evening, loudly demanding the withdrawal of a warning issued by President Aleksandra Vegh to club legend Marijo Mihić. The banner "Miha – one of us" clearly signaled that the club's tradition must not be jeopardised.

What happened?

On Tuesday afternoon, representatives of the Kohorta and the "Bijelo‑plavi" supporters' club met with President Vegh and presented their stance: a warning that could lead to the dismissal of legend Mihić, long‑time spokesperson and club symbol, must not stand. Vegh has not yet responded, prompting fans to raise their voices publicly. The protest was peaceful yet resolute – banners, chants and slogans filled the area around Opus Arena.

Why does it matter for NK Osijek?

Marijo Mihić is more than a spokesperson; he is the face that links generations of fans. His role in media and fan communication makes him a vital bridge between management and the stands. Vegh's decision to warn him with a possible termination sparked fears that core club values were being undermined. Supporters argue such a move could erode trust and affect player morale, who are currently battling for better results – NK Osijek currently sits 9th in the HNL with 35 points, 8 wins, 11 draws and 17 losses from 36 games, and their latest result was a 2‑0 win over Slaven Belupo (2026‑05‑22).

How will the situation develop?

Management has not issued an official reply yet, but a follow‑up meeting is expected before the week ends. Fans have made it clear they will continue protests until their message is heard. If the warning is not rescinded, further actions such as training ground blockades or protests at upcoming matches could follow. Given the current league position – 51 points behind leaders Dinamo Zagreb – any additional pressure on the board could further destabilise the team.

What does this mean for the club's future?

The club is in a precarious phase: a goal difference of -22 (27 scored, 49 conceded) and inconsistent form (last 5 games: 2 wins, 3 losses). If tension between management and supporters remains unresolved, it could hinder the necessary tactical and personnel changes to escape the danger zone. Conversely, demonstrating unity between fans and legends like Mihić could boost morale and inspire better performances on the pitch.

NK Osijek stands at a crossroads – the board must heed the voices of its most loyal backers, while supporters need to recognise that stability is essential for progress in the HNL.
