NK Osijek is today at the centre of a media storm: President Alexandra Vegh has been accused of staff mistreatment and an attack on spokesperson Mario Mihić, sparking widespread discontent within the club.

What happened?

According to reports from Opus Arena employees, Vegh has cut salaries, dismissed workers "with a fist and a cap" and created an atmosphere of fear since her arrival. Two key board members, director Valentine Koprivnjak and sporting director Alen Petrović, left the club a month ago, and their departures are linked to rising pressures.

Why does it matter for NK Osijek?

The club currently sits 9th in the HNL with 35 points, 8 wins, 11 draws and 17 losses from 36 games, and its last result was a 2‑0 win over NK Slaven Belupo on 22 May 2026. The negative image of the board further hampers the fight to escape the relegation zone and regain fan support. Mihić, who has devoted his life to the white‑blue colours, refused to sign a document acknowledging his "mistakes", adding complexity to internal dynamics.

How does the public react?

Fans and local media are calling for a "red line" – a boundary Vegh must not cross. Many view her management style as "harsh" and a threat to the club's tradition. Social media is buzzing with calls to "stop" this behaviour, and some have even suggested her removal.

What comes next?

In the coming weeks a board meeting is expected to decide Vegh's future. If no action is taken, the club could further worsen its standing – it is currently 51 points behind league leaders Dinamo Zagreb. Given the recent form (WWLLL, most recent result a 2‑0 win), any additional loss could be decisive.

Vegh faces mounting pressure, and the club must decide whether to continue under her leadership or seek a new strategy that restores fan trust and board stability.
