NK Osijek loses top talent – Jakov Dedić signs for Hoffenheim

NK Osijek announced today that 17‑year‑old striker Jakob Dedić is leaving the club to join German side Hoffenheim for €850,000 plus bonuses. Dedić scored an astonishing 371 goals in Osijek’s youth ranks and recently netted a hat‑trick at the U‑17 European Championship against Spain. The transfer is the biggest of the season for the club and comes while NK Osijek currently sits 9th in the HNL with 35 points, 8 wins, 11 draws and 17 losses from 36 games, and its latest result was a 2‑0 win over Slaven Belupo (2026‑05‑22).

What triggered the departure?

Dedić entered the final year of his scholarship contract, and the club failed to present a new deal before it expired. Despite a desire to keep him, the deadline passed and Hoffenheim seized the chance. Coach Željko Sopić gave him his first‑team debut, and Tomislav Radotić granted him limited minutes later. Former Croatian international Andrej Kramarić, now a Hoffenheim player, will act as Dedić’s mentor in Germany.

Why is Dedić special?

In Osijek’s academy Dedić recorded 371 goals, making him one of the most prolific forwards in the club’s history. At the U‑17 European Championship he scored all three goals in a 3‑2 victory over Spain, although Croatia failed to advance. His knack for scoring from various positions and quick adaptation to higher levels make him highly attractive to European clubs.

What does this mean for NK Osijek?

Losing Dedić creates a gap up front, but also opens space for other youngsters to step up. The club sits 51 points behind leaders Dinamo Zagreb, and with 27 goals scored and 49 conceded this season, the goal difference is –22. Coach Sopić must find an alternative attacking option while the team fights for league stability. On the other hand, the transfer fee can be used to strengthen other areas or further develop the academy.

What lies ahead?

NK Osijek continues its preparations for the upcoming HNL season, which starts in about a month. Given the current form – the last five matches 2‑2‑0‑0‑0 (WWLLL) and a two‑game winning streak – the side is looking to get back on a winning track. Dedić, meanwhile, will join Hoffenheim under Kramarić’s guidance and continue his rise within the German system. Both clubs will watch his progress closely.
